Hiring a designer and a contractor separately is how projects go sideways. The designer draws something beautiful, hands you a plan, and walks away. Then the contractor prices it, tells you half of it will not work on your lot, and you are standing in the middle trying to referee two people who have never met.
Design and build means one company, one plan, one price, one point of contact. We design it knowing exactly what our crew can build, what your site will allow, and what it will cost before you commit. Nothing gets drawn that we cannot build.
Our process
Every Doucet job follows the same path from first call to final walkthrough. You always know where things are at and what's coming next.
Free on site visit. we will walk the property with you, measure, look at grade and drainage, and talk through what you want.
50% up front 50% after
The Remaining 50% is paid on completion
The design. A scaled plan showing exactly what goes where, with materials and dimensions called out. $500 to $1,500, credited back in full when you build with us.
Owner walks every project. Same in house crew start to finish. Final walkthrough with you before invoicing.
Design fee is $500 to $1,500, depending on the size of the project and how many design hours go into it. Build with us and the whole fee is credited back against your project, so the design ends up costing you nothing.
Design and build projects start at $20,000. There is a reason for the floor. A design build has a lot of moving pieces, and the crew, the customer and the contractor all have to be working from the same plan. Below that number a design does not earn its keep and we will just quote you the work directly. There is no ceiling. Our largest finished design build was $350,000.
The design is yours to keep. If you decide not to build with us, you still own the plan and you can take it to another contractor.
A design build is not one trade. It is excavation, grading, drainage, hardscape and planting, sequenced so each one does not undo the last. We do all of it with our own crew, which is why the plan and the build actually match.

How much does landscape design cost in Halifax and HRM?
Our design fee is $500 to $1,500, depending on the size and complexity of the project and how many hours of design work it takes. If you build the project with us, the full fee is credited back, so the design ends up costing you nothing.
What do I get for the design fee?
A scaled plan of your property showing exactly what goes where, with materials and dimensions called out. You get it as a PDF and a printed hard copy, plus a full materials list, and a site consultation where both the owner and the designer walk the property with you.
Do I have to build with you?
No. The design is yours. If you decide to go another direction you can take the plan to another contractor.
What size projects do you take on?
Design and build projects start at $20,000. Our largest completed design build was $350,000. For smaller work we will quote the job directly without a design.
When do I pay?
50% up front and the other 50% when the job is done. You get a clear itemized quote before anything starts.
